Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate prevalence of golf-related pain and understand the regional distribution of golf-related pain and associated factors.
Method: We sended e-mail questionnaire to one thousand thirty four amateur golfers among members of a internet golf site in the period from August, 2001 to December, 2001.
Result: There were 602 respondent of whom 63.5% reported recent pain associated with golf activity. Based on regional pain distribution, upper extremity including shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand was the most common area of pain complaints, followed by spine, lower extremity, rib and chest in order. Based on anatomical distribution, back was the most common pain site. Overuse factor like number of round per week was associated with golf-related pain.
Conclusion: Golf itself imposes relatively more burden on upper extremity and spine. Among risk factors, overuse was associated with development of golf-related pain.
